Tuesday, March 17 – Thursday, March 19, 2020

Event Time: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Farnsworth Art Museum
16 Museum Street, Rockland

In this workshop we will explore the essential skills needed to draw confidently and effectively from direct observation. We will start with an exploration of line, contour, composition, effective use of negative space, perspective, cross contour analysis, and gesture. We will then move into the study of light and dark, modelling, hatching, and contour hatching. There will be brief side trips into thumbnail drawing, cartooning, and some discussion of historical precedents. Bar Harbor artist Robert Pollien earned his MFA from the University of Pennsylvania and attended Skowhegan. Pollien is represented by Dowling Walsh Gallery in Rockland, Artemis Gallery in Northeast Harbor, and The Littlefield Gallery in Winter Harbor, Maine. He has been a Maine Arts Commission Individual Artist Fellow and a Carina House Resident Fellow on Monhegan Island. Pollien is currently the Resident Artist at Acadia National Park.
