This will be a conversation about workplace culture and our role as HR professionals. We are welcoming Gia Drew, Program Director from EqualityMaine, to lead a conversation on inclusion in the workplace, specifically in regards to transgender equality. This conversation will help you consider how to handle workplace changes and biases while making a difference in the lives transgender and gender diverse employees, including how to have supportive conversations, implement policy, and developing smart practices to becoming an even more inclusive employer.
Note that this program will run to 1:30, extending the usual meeting time by half an hour.
Speaker bio: Gia Drew is Program Director at EqualityMaine where she’s been a staff member since 2014. As program director Gia oversees all education and training, rural outreach, and youth programming, as well as advocating for policies and laws that protect the LGBTQ+ community. She serves on multiple committees, including the MaineCare Advisory Committee, University of New England School of Social Work Community Advisory Group, Maine Health Access Foundation Community Advisory Committee, Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault LGBTQ+ Advisory Board, and the Violence Prevention Network.
Gia earned degrees from both Syracuse University and Savannah College of Art and Design and was a high school teacher and coach for twenty years. During that time she transitioned on the job becoming one of the first transgender public school teachers in Maine and the first trans high school coach in the country. Originally from Boston, Gia has lived in Maine for nearly 20 years, and calls Kennebunkport home. Gia uses the pronouns she, her, and hers.
